Primarily composed of calcium carbonate, Grigio Versilia is classified as a marble. Extremely tough and hardwearing, it can withstand heavy weights and extreme temperatures. Its low porosity ensures a low absorption coefficient, however given that it is, at heart, a calcareous stone, it is relatively intolerant of acids.
Like any marble, its colour depends on the presence of mineral impurities within the sedimentary structure of the original rock. As the crystal pattern created is always difference, the mosaic of veining also changes, giving us wonderful swathes of colour that can vary from grey to blue and varying levels of white and clear parts.
This dramatic, vivacious marble contains a fascinating selection of inclusions and “impurities” that only add to its cool, austere beauty and underline its inherent quality.
